"A beautiful space where I was was inspired and supported to create a new performance piece. Transformative experience."

Harriet (Clown & Cabaret performer)

“Having been to Canole already, I know that even if my work isn’t ‘clowning’, actually it involves a lot more clowning than I ever realised and most stuff I write or perform would really benefit from this process”

Johnny. Perfomer/writer/director

What is it?

Five days dedicated to nurturing the seeds of your next clown or solo show.

This residency is not a training, but a pépinière — a small, fertile space where ideas can take root and grow.

Whether you already have an embryo of a show or are still searching for the spark, this residency offers time, inspiration, and exchange with others on the same journey. With only four participants, the atmosphere will be intimate and generous — a space to explore, share, get inspired, and play.

Sophie will accompany you as an outside-eye director, helping you find the first steps of your creation or refine what has already begun to emerge. Through playful prompts & visual poetry she will help you shape the world of your show.

The day will be divided between group work and time for individual exploration/supervision with Sophie and on the last evening we will invite our friends from village to have a peep into our worlds: A good opportunity for you to test out your ideas in front of a friendly audience.

To make this residency more affordable, we explore a new formula where we lower the costs and in return we all help out for 2h each day either with cooking our meals, gardening, or tending to the space together.

"So much playfulness, but also depth, warmth and trust. Absolutely loved it. Ready to go again!"

Isabelle (theatre maker working with people with different abilities)

"A very supportive environment to find my silliness and expression through clown again. Some magical moments in a very special place."

Emma (performer)
